HEROES EXPO HONORS FALLEN FRIENDS
Mark Clark retail showroom and Michael Turner show floor announced!
The Syracuse Heroes Expo is honoring two very special figures from the comic book and toy collecting industry at this year's event. The world became a little less beautiful this year when artistic comic book talent Michael Turner succumbed to cancer. "I had the pleasure of meeting Michael dozens of times and he never played the rock star card." said Expo organizer Jeff Watkins. "He was so happy to meet every fan and treated you like a friend, no matter how many people were in line, and no matter how much pain he was in. His valiant fight aginst the ravages of cancer is an inspiration. He wasn't just an excellent artist. He was an excellent human being." he continued. It is a sentiment echoed by the entire comic book industry and this year the showroom at Syracuse Heroes Expo bears his name in memoriam. "Michael provided so much joy for us comic book fans. I hope all the smiles and good times at the Syracuse Heroes Expo will reach him in heaven." 2008 also saw the passing of Mark Clark. Mr. Clark was the organizer of the Toyful Weekend events at the New York State Fairgrounds. These collosal events brought thousands of action figure, toy, and comic affecianados to the area. His passionate collecting and kind demeanor made him iconic in the toy collecting community. "I can honestly say that if it were not for Mark Clark, there probably would not even be a Syracuse Heroes Expo." confessed Watkins. "I was an 18 year old punk kid when he took a chance and let me set up as a vendor at one of his State Fairground toy shows. It was the first time that I had ever retailed at an event and it laid the foundation for the rest of my career. In fact, years later when I organized my first comic show, it was Mark Clark who was there helping me out with the set-up and helping make sure things ran smoothly. His knowledge was invaluable to me. He could have been cut-throat and competitive, but that was not his style. He was a true ambassador to the hobby. He is really missed around here." To honor Mark Clark, the retail show room at the 2008 Syracuse Heroes Expo will bear his name. "Just think about how many collectors participate in this hobby because of what Mark and his father, Harry, have done in Central New York. They built a lot here. There are a lot of happy people enjoying this because of them."
